The Inbetweeners movie is a spin off of a series that is shown on channel 4. It had three full series produced, this helped them gain a large fan base around it, therefore they where able to discuss and decide to produce a film due to the large numbers of views on channel 4.
The Inbetweeners movie was produced by Christopher Young and was directed by Ben Palmer. The actors that star in the film are the same as the ones that star in the TV series, these are Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison. The movie was set in Malia Crete, however was actually filmed in Mallorca Spain.
The Inbetweeners Movie genre is a comedy the same as what the series on channel 4 was, The way in which they changed the programme from a series to a film was by changing the setting from in a school to a foreign country. They also helped to gain a larger audience by making the characters older and having left school, this helped new audiences to watch the film as they did not actually need to have whatched the finale series or even any of them as there were only a few references made to events in the show. This meant that everyone would understand the comedy and not feel at all isolated.
The Fan base of the TV series was between the ages of 15 and 25 however the film has managed to gain a larger fan of between the ages of 15 and 35. This is due to the content of the series being relatable for the fans as they where either going though it at the time or had recently been though school so could relate to what they where going though. The Inbetweeners Movie is produced and directed by the same people as the series was these are named above, it is also funded by Film 4 who is part of the 4 entertainment therefore this explains the low budget of £3,500,000 as they are not a largely funded channel.
The Inbetweeners Movie was shown in over 250 cinemas nationally. It was shown in both multiplex cinemas and independent cinemas, however the independent cinemas are given the film later than what the multiplex cinemas are, this is because the multiplex cinemas are able to advertise the film alot more than what the independent cinemas can the reason for this is that they can give a larger budget due to the larger revenue that they receive. Therefore the price for a ticket depends on the cinema that they go to, a independent cinema will have tickets at £5.00 and multiplex cinemas charge around £5.20 for a ticket. This is not a large difference in price but the 20p for a multiplex cinema does make a large difference in profits during the opening weekend of the film.
This film did not have any special offers or subscriptions liked to the release of the film i think that this is because the film was produced with such a low budget that there just wasn't any money to produce anything like that. However they did produce a piece of merchandise to advertise the film and get more interest in it. This piece of merchandise that they did produce was a T-Shirt that was worn by the main characters in the film.
There is a variety of different ways in which this movie is advertised. one of the methods was by producing a variety of different programs on channel 4. The reason in which they did this is so that it is then fresh in your mind and makes you want to go and watch the film more than if they didn't as some people would not remember it, If someone didn't remember it then they may be put off from going and watching the film. They also advertised the film by producing posters these posters gave u an insight into the setting of the film and showed you that the same actors and characters from the series where going to be in the film. this helped to get the attention of the old fan bass and draw them into going and watching the film to see what is going on with them, or in other words to catch up with the characters. The tag line across the top of the poster also gives you an insight of the setting of it because it says "THIS SUMMER FOUR BOYS BECOME MEN" this linked with the background of the poster tells you that it is going to be set with the boys on a lads holiday abroad. It was also advertised via the internet on popular social networking sites. The most popular ones that it was advertised on was facebook and twitter.
The finale way in which it was advertised was with a trailer that was advertised on the TV and at the beginning of films at the cinema. There is two different trailers that where made and shown at various intervals during the day. These trailers gave you an insight about what the film was going to be about as well as what it was going to be like. This trailer also gives the audience a idea of which actors are new to the production and what effect this will give on the original characters. This trailer also pulls in a new group of viewers due to the fact that the film was advertised alot more than what the series was. Therefore alot more people new about it.
The inbetweeners movie also did some indirect advertising by going on chat shows such as Alan Carr chatty man. These apperiences where to both tell people about the film but also to discuss there plans now that they have finished the filming. There was a variety of different chat shows that they did not just this one that i have given an example of. They dont just do chat shows but also do interviews with pappers which you can see an example of below from the guardian. However it is not only the actors who are going on the chat shows to advertise but it is the creaters as well. The inbetweeners also has alot of reviews that have been produced and pubished in both a variety of pappers and websites. Therefore
this then helps to bring in more views because they read the review about how good it is and then want to experience the film for themselves.
Finale the inbetweeners movie has got both its own website though film4 and there own you tube page.
The website that is though film4 is actually funded directly by them which means that it is a low budget website. This means that it dosent have a large number of animations ect. The inbetweeners mini website has these following pages who's who, the cast, the filmakers, photo gallery, lad's holiday and the trailer. I think that this is a good way for people that have never watched the programme before. Therefore i think that this is also a good way of not isolating anybody from the film,
The inbetweeners movie also has a mini site via you tube this has a subscription option so that you can watch all of the past series just by paying for the subscription. This mini site also shows you any spin off shows that are linked with the show.
The inbetweeners movie also has a facebook page where you can post your comments on the film or even your comments on events leading up to the film being released. On this you can also see images from the film.
